Volleyball Squad Picks Up Key Win At South Alabama

Box Score

MOBILE, Ala. (10/23/09) - The duo of Roxana Casvean and Amy Huddleston pounded South Alabama with 16 kills each as the North Texas volleyball team rolled to a 3-1 (25-27, 25-13, 25-14, 26-24) win on Friday night.

The Mean Green (8-15, 4-5 Sun Belt) fell in the first set despite hitting .314, but rebounded to force 26 Jaguar (11-13, 2-9 Sun Belt) attack errors and a .113 USA hitting. Huddleston's .343 hitting percentage is a season high for any Mean Green player that reached double-digit kills.

The win was an important one for NT, which is battling for a spot in next month's Sun Belt Conference Tournament. North Texas started the day ranked ninth in the league, which would make NT the first squad out of the eight-team championship.

North Texas' 68 digs and 55 kills are the most by the Mean Green in a four-set match this year. Sarah Willey led the defensive effort with a stunning 22-dig performance. Kayla Saey notched another double-double with 10 digs and 48 assists on the evening.

The block was also big for NT, which sent back eight Jaguar attacks. Brittany Brown tallied five blocks and Kati Dillard had four.

North Texas wraps up its Alabama road trip on Saturday night at Troy at 7 p.m.
