Mean Green Volleyball Falls In Marathon Match At Troy




TROY, Ala. (10/19/07) The Mean Green volleyball team out-served and out-gunned Troy on Friday night, but still fell to the Trojans in five games, 30-25, 28-30, 30-27, 32-34, 14-16.

 

North Texas (9-15, 5-5) landed its fair share of shots in the five-game marathon versus the Trojans (14-13, 5-6), but Troy middle blocker Aubre Smith landed the most important. The junior broke the 14-14 tie in the fifth game to give Troy the final lead of the night.

 

The Mean Green landed its attacks at a .203 percentage clip, marking the first time this season in nine tries that NT has hit over .200 and lost.

 

Katy Prokof led four Mean Green players in double-figures with a team season-high 23 kills. Catherine Coffey dropped in 20 kills, Amy Huddleston had 11 and Brooke Engel notched 10.

 

Engel regained her touch from the serving line with four aces against the Trojans. The senior led the North Texas squad which topped Troy 11-6 in the category.

 

Heather Maddox topped 60-assists for the second time in her last three matches. The sophomore had 68 assists against Louisiana-Lafayette last weekend and added 62 versus Troy.

 

The Mean Green returns to action on Saturday at South Alabama at 7 p.m.
