Morton Leads VB To Fourth Straight Win

MONROE, La. - Shelley Morton's third double-double of the season extended the North Texas volleyball team's winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 sweep of ULM on Saturday night (25-13, 25-23, 25-18).

The junior pounded the Warhawks (0-16, 0-7 Sun Belt West) with a match-high 18 kills on a personal best .556 hitting. North Texas (15-9, 7-2 Sun Belt West) extends its lead over the Sun Belt West and reaches 15 wins for just the fifth time in the last 22 years.

North Texas, which is now 10-1 in three set matches this year, hit .315 as a team and limited ULM to .113. Including Morton, three NT players with at least five kills registered .500 hitting or better.

She was joined in double figures by Amy Huddleston and Rachelle Wilson, who tallied 13 and 11 kills apiece. Sarah Willey led the defensive efforts with a match high 14 digs.

Kayla Saey was outstanding as the Mean Green setter with 49 assists in just three sets, good for an average of 16.3 assists per set. Fifty nine of NT's 75 points against the Warhawks were assited.

North Texas returns home to face Troy and South Alabama next weekend. NT faces the Trojans on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Jaguars on Sunday at 1 p.m.
