Sunshine State Showdown Next Up For NT Volleyball

BOCA RATON, Fla. (10/8/08) With the final non-conference match in the rear view mirror, the North Texas volleyball  team heads to the Sunshine state for a pair of Sun Belt tilts starting on Friday at Florida Atlantic.

Both FAU and NT are riding three-match losing streaks, but the Mean Green (3-14, 1-3 Sun Belt West) is undefeated in the two previous meetings with Florida Atlantic (9-7, 2-2 Sun Belt East), which is coming off a 3-0 loss to Miami.

North Texas hung with a tough SMU squad on Tuesday night in a match that featured 12 lead changes and 33 ties. NT and the Ponies were tied at 24 apiece in both the first and third sets, but the experience of SMU was too much for the Mean Green in the end.

Following the FAU match, North Texas heads to Miami to play Florida International (13-4, 3-1 Sun Belt East) at Pharmed Arena. The Golden Panthers feature the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year, Yarimar Rosa. The four-time SBC Player of the Week leads the NCAA with 5.32 kills per set, but will looking for revenge from a North Texas squad that topped FIU 3-0 in Denton last year.

The first serve against FAU is slated for 6 p.m. (Central) on Friday. NT and Florida International are slated to begin at noon on Sunday.
