Mean Green Volleyball Falls To Lady Toppers

Box Score

DENTON (9/29/06) The Western Kentucky Lady Toppers (14-6, 3-0) showed Friday why they were the preseason pick to win the Sun Belt as they knocked off the Mean Green 3-0 (30-21, 30-26,30-27) at the North Texas Volleyball Center.

Preseason conference player of the year Megan Argabright had 17 kills and seven blocks in leading the Lady Toppers, who have yet to lose a single game in conference play.

North Texas (10-8, 1-2) hung close behind the 12 kills of Tara Hooser and the seven aces by Brooke Engel. Engel entered the game leading the nation in total aces and has posted 20 aces in her last three matches, all three-game matches.

“Brooke is playing with no fear right now,” head coach Cassie Headrick said. “For a kid who wouldn’t even jump-serve last year it is great to see how far she has come.”

The Mean Green improved its attack percentage in the second game after having 12 errors in the first game.  The Lady Toppers improved their attack percentage each game, finishing with a .267 percentage for the match.

“We proved that we could play with them tonight,” Headrick said.

The Mean Green will be back in action Sunday against Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders finished second in the conference tournament last season, losing to Western Kentucky

Game time is set for 1 p.m. from the North Texas Volleyball Center.
