Mean Green Completes Tourney Sweep; Hulsebosch Sets Record




CHICAGO, Illinois (9/16/06) The North Texas volleyball team completed a sweep of the Illinois-Chicago Tournament on Saturday with wins over UIC and Western Illinois, and did so in record-setting fashion with Jessica Hulsebosch setting the all-time digs record with 1,313.

 

Hulsebosch entered the tournament 61 digs away from tying the record and broke it in impressive style in the final match versus Western Illinois.  She finished with 42 digs in the match, breaking her own single-match record and setting the all-time record held formerly by Corina Marginas.

 

The Mean Green (9-6) posted its second consecutive five-game victory when it beat the host Illinois-Chicago Flames (5-9) 30-22,30-19,22-30,22-30, 15-12. 

 

Katy Prokof and Heather Maddox each posted their second consecutive double-double in the win.  Prokof finished with 14 kills and 16 digs, while Maddox added 46 more assists to her season tally along with 11 digs.

 

In the tournament finale North Texas placed three players in double-figure kills in defeating the Western Illinois Westerwinds (3-10) in four games (28-30, 30-19, 30-28, 30-23).

 

Three players for the Mean Green finished in double-digits led by Katy Prokof with 21.  Also, Brittney Gregory finished with a season-high 17 kills and Brooke Engel had 13 of her own.

 

Heather Maddox collected another double-double with 15 digs and a career-high 62 assists in the final match.

 

This was the final tune-up for the Mean Green before Sun Belt Conference play begins Friday at Arkansas State.
