North Texas Falls To McNeese State 3-1




WACO, Tex. (9/3/05) Freshman Rachel Raley and sophomore Katy Prokof had season highs with 18 and 16 kills against McNeese State, but the North Texas (0-6) volleyball team fell in four games, 3-1, at the Baylor/Hilton Invitational. In a very tight match, the Mean Green lost two of the three games by just two points.

 

McNeese State (2-2) won the first game 30-22 and a very close second game 31-29. North Texas rallied and won the third match 30-27, setting up the fourth game.

 

The Mean Green grabbed the momentum in the fourth game, taking a 13-9 lead. McNeese State came back to take an 18-16 lead, but North Texas answered and won nine of the next 12 points to lead 25-21.

 

The Cowgirls once again rallied and closed out the match with a 30-28 win in the fourth game. Prokof notched a season-high 22 digs in the match and junior Tara Hooser had 12 kills. North Texas had four players with 10 kills or more for the first time this season.

 

In the first match of the afternoon Baylor defeated North Texas 3-0. Baylor defeated the Mean Green 30-17, 30-24, and 30-19. Jessica Hulsebosch and Prokof had 10 digs apiece in the match.

 

North Texas returns to action in the home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 7 against Tulsa.
