Volleyball Named G.R.E.E.N. Cup Champs

DENTON, Texas - The North Texas volleyball team, winner of the Jackson State Invite, is having even more success away from the floor. The squad was crowned champs of the second annual G.R.E.E.N. Cup by the NT athletics department for its involvement in the Mean Green community.

The competition among all Mean Green sports measures each team's commitment to the five areas closest to the Mean Green mission statement; academics, athletics, community service and personal and career development.

The volleyball team took the lead early in the 2009-10 school year and never let up, winning by over 800 points over the softball and swimming and diving squads. The team received the traveling G.R.E.E.N. Cup and $1,000 prize money.

In June, the volleyball team scored the highest four-year snapshot score on the NCAA's APR report, placing in the 70-80th percentile of all teams in the country.

North Texas volleyball returns to action on Friday against Syracuse and Samford at the Samford Invitational.
