Veterans Power Volleyball's Jackson State Win

Box Score

JACKSON, Miss. - On team packed with talented newcomers, it was a three-way combo of veterans that paved the way for the North Texas volleyball team's 3-1 (27-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-13) win over Jackson State in Saturday afternoon's action at the Jackson State Invitational.

Seniors Amy Huddleston and Roxana Casvean tallied 14 and 12 kills each, and sophomore Rachelle Wilson landed 13 more as the Mean Green (2-0) ran away from the Tigers (1-2) with a 57-30 edge in total team kills.

NT is now 2-0 on the season for the first time since 2003, and can wrap up the JSU Invite title with a win over New Orleans at 4:30 p.m.

"Jackson State is a tough team to play against, and we struggled a little on passing. Thankfully we were able to get rolling a little bit once we settled down," said North Texas head coach Ken Murczek. "Roxie [Casvean] was unbelievable, and both of our middles played great as well. It's a work in progress and I'm happy with where we're at."

Sarah Willey moved into 10th place in school history in career digs by notching 16 against the Tigers. The junior now has 739 for her career, passing Heidi Johnson (2003-05) for 10th.

Senior transfer Kristin Petrasic saw her first action at libero for the Mean Green and tallied 18 digs.
