Gregory Earns All-Conference As Mean Green Picked Third

DENTON (8/21/06) North Texas’ Brittney Gregory has been named to the 2006 Pre-Season All-Sun Belt volleyball team and the Mean Green has been picked to finish third in the Sun Belt Western Division in the pre-season coaches poll.

Gregory, a junior middle blocker is a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference player who is returning after a knee injury placed her on the sidelines for the entire 2005 season. She is currently second all-time at North Texas with 1,110 kills and fourth all-time with 2, 571 attacks. She is also ranked in top-10 all-time in attack percentage, career aces and career total blocks.

North Texas is coming off a 14-18 season overall and an 8-5 conference record that was good enough for second place in the Sun Belt West in 2005. The Mean Green was eliminated by Arkansas-Little Rock in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament last season, but return 12 players from that team including Gregory and 2005 Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference player, Katy Prokof.

The Mean Green is led by seventh-year head coach Cassie Headrick, who needs only three more victories to become the all-time leader in wins at North Texas.

The Mean Green opens the season Friday, August 26, at the Texas State Tournament in San Marcos

The team begins the home season September 5 versus TCU in the first game at the new Mean Green Volleyball Center.
