Mean Green Volleyball Inks Roxana Casvean

DENTON (5/4/06) -- North Texas head volleyball coach Cassie Headrick has announced that Roxana Casvean, a 5-11 outside hitter from Brasov, Romania, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Mean Green in 2006.

Casvean will have four years of eligibility with North Texas after playing club volleyball with L.P.S C.S.S.-Brasov while attending high school in Romania. She helped lead the team to a league championship and she was chosen to play for the Romanian Junior National Team in 2004.

"We feel that Roxana is going to be a very versatile player that will be able to play at both the middle blocker and outside hitter positions, but we expect her to primarily play on the outside," said Headrick. "I know the coaches and players are looking forward to her arriving in August and bringing a new dimension to this team."

Casvean is from the same hometown as former North Texas standout and All-American Corina Marginas (2000-03).

"Roxana and Corina have both been coached by the same coaches at times throughout their careers, but that is were the similarities end," said Headrick. "Roxana is not quite as tall as Corina, but she is overall more athletic. We are looking forward to her bringing her international experience and culture to this team."

North Texas also signed Heather Maddox during the early signing period. Maddox is a 5-8 all-state setter from Boerne, Texas. Casvean and Maddox complete the Mean Green’s signing class for the upcoming season.

"With the additions of Roxana and Heather Maddox, we will undoubtedly have the most depth on this team since I’ve been here, and that is very promising heading into the summer months," said Headrick.
