Forst, Shannon Make NT Debuts In Houston

HOUSTON – The North Texas volleyball team tipped off the spring season on Saturday at the Houston Juniors College Invitational and head coach Ken Murczek couldn’t have been happier with his team’s performance.

“It was great to see the girls get rewarded for all of their hard work this offseason,” Murczek said. “It shows that we’ve properly set the bar pretty high this spring. Our goal is to push the envelope and see what we’re capable of, so my hat is off to the girls for keeping the intensity up through all four matches.”

May Allen earned the starts at setter as the Mean Green took on Houston, Sam Houston State, Rice and Baylor in one-hour matches that focused more on development than the final score.

Freshman Annalisse Shannon, who missed the 2011 season with an injury, made her debut for the Mean Green, along with South Carolina transfer Hannah Forst.

The Mean Green returns to practice on Monday in preparation for a tournament hosted by UT Arlington on Saturday, April 14. North Texas will host SMU on Wednesday, April 18 at the Mean Green Volleyball Center.
