VB Head Coach Ken Murczek Resigns

DENTON, Texas – North Texas head volleyball coach Ken Murczek has left the program to become the head coach at Wake Forest University.

In three seasons with the Mean Green, Murczek won a pair of Sun Belt West Division titles, including a school record-tying 26 wins and the program’s first run to the SBC Tournament finals in 2012. Murczek finished his time at NT with a .600 win percentage (63-42 overall), which is tops in school history.

“I loved my time at North Texas,” Murczek said. “I had great experiences with all of the players, coaches and administrators, and together we accomplished a lot in three years. Most of all, I’m grateful for how welcoming the entire North Texas community was to my wife and I. We truly felt a part of the Mean Green family. I certainly want to thank Rick Villarreal for the opportunity to lead this program, and for his invaluable support in helping take the Mean Green to new heights.”

At Wake Forest, Murczek will be taking over for the winningest coach in that program’s history in Heather Kahl Holmes, who stepped down in January due to health concerns.

“I want to thank Ken for his dedication and hard work, and wish him well,” Villarreal said. “The very young talent on this team won a Sun Belt West Division title and tied the school record for wins last year, and I have no doubt they will only achieve more of the same in 2013. We have begun a national search, and I am confident we will secure a coach who will continue the success we have enjoyed the last three years. The next coach of this program will inherit one heck of a volleyball team.”
