Career Accuracy From Dillard Earns VB Sweep

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Freshman Carnae Dillard peppered Jackson State with 15 kills to put North Texas head volleyball coach Ken Murczek on the brink of history. The Mean Green swept the Tigers to give the third-year coach his 49th career win (25-15, 29-27, 25-11).

Picking up the win in his 84th career match as the North Texas (12-5) head coach, Murczek is now one victory away from becoming the fastest Mean Green skipper to ever reach the 50-win plateau. The previous record holder, Dolores Copeland, was the program’s founding coach in 1976, and reached her 50th win in 89 matches.

Dillard, who entered the week as a.127 hitter in 2012, was unstoppable against the Tigers (2-10) with a career-high .424 attack percentage. She added six digs and a pair of blocks in the win.

NT trailed 19-14 late in the second set, but fought back thanks to Eboni Godfrey and Dillard. The duo combined for six kills down the stretch, including the clinching point, to give the Mean Green the set at 27-29.

Jackson State was allowed just a single point off its own serve in the third frame, as NT sidedout at 90 percent for the set. Shelby Tamura, who notched a game-high 14 digs, and the Mean Green defense had a lot to do with that.
