Box Score

DENTON, Texas - The new look North Texas volleyball team started the 2012 season off with a bang, sweeping Prairie View A&M with .330 hitting as a team (25-13, 25-11, 25-11).

Karissa Flack and Courtney Windham led the way for the Mean Green (1-0) with nine and eight kills, respectively. Camille Cherry and May Allen, who rotated at setter, notched 16 assists each and helped the offense flow in mid-season form.

Only twice did North Texas top Friday's .330 hitting percentage in all of last season. Hallie McDonald landed five kills on .714 hitting, and Eboni Godfrey wasn't far behind with four kills on .571 hitting.

NT never let Prairie View (0-1) get started off its own serve, posting a 72 percent sideout mark. Shelby Tamura and Addason Lamb both saw time in the Libero jersey, and tallied 11 and 10 digs.

Eight players made their Mean Green debuts against the Panthers, and four saw their first collegiate action. Analisse Shannon, who missed last season with an injury, stepped in and notched a pair of kills. Her high school teammate, freshman Carnae Dillard, also landed two kills.

North Texas returns to action tonight against UMKC (1-0) at 7 p.m.
