Denton, Texas

Senior libero Shelby Tamura has proven invaluable to the Mean Green volleyball program since her arrival a year ago. With a wealth of volleyball knowledge, as well as maturity and leadership skills, Tamura has proven herself time and time again on the court.

As a walk-on, she had to prove herself after transferring to the Mean Green, a task she handled with success. Quickly gaining a starting a role, Tamura showed why she belonged in Denton by playing an integral role on a team that tied the school record for wins.

She totaled the second-most digs in single season history for the program with 642 in her first season at North Texas.

A communication design major, the Coppell native also sought a return home to attend north Texas after two seasons at New Mexico State because she valued the level of the academics at UNT.

With a fierce tenacity and record-setting abilities on the court as a defensive specialist, the senior continues to strive for excellence off the court. Having demonstrated her work ethic and proven herself to three different head coaches, she is prepared to tackle challenges on the court or in the real world in pursuit of her goal of becoming an advertising art director.

The Mean Green returns to Denton for the home opener against UTA on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m.
