DENTON - North Texas volleyball coach Andrew Palileo has announced the Mean Green's 2015 schedule, a slate that includes matchups with eight teams that finished with a top-100 RPI last season.
"We wanted a schedule that would challenge our team early on so we can evaluate and adjust before heading into conference play," Palileo said. "I think the tournaments we are a part of will really get us out of our comfort zone, especially in terms of size, style and the systems that we'll be facing."
North Texas will begin the season with the Missouri Tournament in late-August, but it is the Oklahoma Tournament from Sept. 4-5 that will provide an early season test for the Mean Green. While in Norman, Palileo & Co. will take on Central Arkansas before battling two teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament in Oklahoma and UALR.
The Mean Green will then host UAB before kicking off the annual North Texas Invitational on Sept. 11, a tournament that will feature matches against Boise State, Abilene Christian and Houston. Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 16) and Baylor (Sept. 22) will also travel to Denton before the team takes on a rigorous slate of conference competition.
North Texas will look to avenge an early exit from last year's Conference USA tournament when a defending champion WKU squad comes to Denton on Sunday, Oct. 18. The Hilltoppers defeated the Mean Green 3-0 in the semifinal round of last year's conference tournament.
