DENTON, Texas – North Texas ushered in a new era of Mean Green volleyball in 2013 as the team completed its inaugural season in Conference USA and its first year under head coach Andrew Palileo.
Palileo, former Pac-12 Coach of the Year, led the Mean Green to a 8-6 conference record and 17-15 overall record after leaving Ohio State for the North Texas head coaching job.
Several Mean Green athletes were recognized this season for their performances on the court. Sophomore Carnae Dillard and senior Karissa Flack were named to the all-conference first and second teams, respectively.
Freshman setter Amy Hernard was regarded as one of the nation’s top setters coming out of Brock High School in Weatherford, Texas. In her first year at North Texas, Hernard made an immediate impact. She started every set, was named C-USA setter of the week on Sept. 23 and was selected for the C-USA All-Freshman team.
Senior Courtney Windham was recognized for her efforts off the court, as she was named a C-USA Fall Spirit of Service honoree for her work in the community.
After defeating Florida Atlantic in round one No. 5 seed North Texas fell to Marshall in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
