COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior Carnae Dillard had a career day, but it wasn't enough to give North Texas the edge it needed as the Mean Green fell to NDSU in five sets (25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 18-25, 13-15).

For the second straight match, North Texas took sets one and two before dropping the third and fourth frames. Unlike it's season-opening match against Winthrop, the Mean Green couldn't finish the job in its first of two matches on Saturday.

The loss overshadowed Dillard's fine effort on the court. She tallied 30 total kills on 65 attacks against the Bison, the second-highest mark of her 102-game career.

Early on it looked like North Texas was firmly in control of the match. While the Mean Green had only a slight advantage in total attacks during the first frame (41-34), a steady onslaught of North Texas kills kept the Bison on the defensive throughout much of the set before eventually pulling out the 25-22 victory.

Set two was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams keeping it close for the duration. At one point NDSU put together a five-point run, but a balanced North Texas offense eventually fought its way back. Holly Milam came up big in the set's final moments, powering down a kill to even the frame up at 23-23. An NDSU attack error followed, and Milam ended the set by adding one more of her 10 kills on the day.

The turning point of the match came in sets three and four as All-Summit League players Jenni Fassbender and Emily Miron began to pick up steam. The duo combined for only eight kills and an attack percentage of .100 in the match's first two sets, but they stormed back, adding a combined nine kills in set three alone. By the day's end, they totaled 25 kills for the Bison.

North Texas couldn't put together the run that it needed to pull out the win in set five. Despite Dillard's five kills in the final frame, the Mean Green led only twice in the set's early moments.
