DENTON — The North Texas volleyball team will open its 2016 spring schedule next week in a slate that includes plenty of local competition.

Coming off its second 20-win season in three years under head coach Andrew Palileo, the Mean Green kick off exhibition play with a home matchup versus SMU at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, from the North Texas Volleyball Center.

That matchup with the Mustangs will be followed by a road trip up Interstate 35 for showdowns against Wichita State and Oklahoma, where North Texas will look to relive an early season upset over the Sooners from the McCasland Fieldhouse.

Rounding out the team’s spring matches in Denton is a showdown against UTA at 5:30 p.m. on April 14. Both home matches will be played in a best-of-5 format.

North Texas will close spring play at the annual Lone Star College Showcase in Dallas. Opponents and match times are to be decided, but the tournament regularly includes some of the best teams throughout the region.

The spring slate will be the first opportunity to see a new-look North Texas squad as the team will be without the services of All-American Carnae Dillard for the first time in four seasons. With 14 returning letterwinners, March’s matches are sure to give a glimpse into a new era of Mean Green volleyball.
