DENTON, Texas (4/29/08) More than 300 area fifth graders gathered at Fouts Field Tuesday afternoon to compete in the 12th annual Fifth Grade All-Star Track Meet hosted by the University of North Texas track and field team.
Several Mean Green track and field athletes served as officials for the event in which area Denton ISD students competed in multiple running, jumping and throwing events.
Others, such as Montrell Pyron and Byron Washington served as coaches and team coordinators for the nine DISD schools that were represented at Fouts Field.
Meet organizers hope this introduction to track and field helps motivate the children to stay involved with sports as they head into middle and high school.
