Mean Green Women In First After Day One




MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - North Texas women's track & field sits in first place after the first day of the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships at the Murphy Center.

Sara Dietz shattered her own school record in the 3,000-meter en route to a first place finish. The senior finished the event in 9:39.18, over four and a half seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.

The Mean Green women also moved six athletes along to the finals in the short sprints including two in the 55-hurdles and two in the 800-meter run.

Day One Results

Junior Chelsea Hermes notched three personal records during the pentathlon Saturday in addition to an overall personal record with 3,656 points.

Sophomore Sarah Vann took home third place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.55-meters.  Teammates Sarah Korn and Jessica McNew finished just behind her in seventh and eighth respectively.

The shot put saw freshman Deja McKnight move up the performance list and finish in third place in the shot put, tossing 13.43m.

Shahaf Barnei joined Vann and McKnight on the podium as she took home a third place finish in the high jump, followed immediately by Hermes.

The Mean Green will complete the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships on Sunday from the Murphy Center.
