Field Events Lead Way For Mean Green T&F

FORT WORTH, Texas - Mean Green track & field wrapped up the TCU Invitational for its first outdoor meet of the 2011 season on Friday afternoon from the Lowdon Track & Field Complex.

The field events took the spotlight for North Texas, registering two first place and five other top-five finishes.

Senior Christal Brewster captured the title in the pole vault despite only having competed in the event once during the indoor season.

Her winning height of 3.95 meters was .55 higher than second place finisher and teammate Sarah Vann and good enough for the second best vault in the nation so far this outdoor season.

Freshman Terrance Williams continued to produce for the Mean Green and nabbed the top spot in the long jump with a 7.41 meter jump. Williams currently sits tied for second in the nation with that mark.

Senior Jermaine Jamison cleared 2.05 meters in the high jump and collected a second place finish Friday afternoon.

The running events saw the men's 4 x 400 meter relay team of Justin Flowers, Steven White, Montrell Pyron and Clinton Collins finish in third place in an incredibly close race with a time of 3:09.62, just .42 seconds behind first place finisher TCU.

North Texas will be back in action next Friday and Saturday when it hosts the first of two meets this season, the North Texas Classic, at Fouts Field. Check MeanGreenSports.com for updates on the schedule for the event.
