About Canstruction

UNT Canstruction is a food drive for the Denton Community Food Center held in conjunction with Homecoming. Students create a team to collect food and raise awareness to help impact local hunger while having fun designing and building structures out of non-perishable food items.

Last year 22,000 pounds of food was collected for the Denton Community in this one day.

This sounds like a large amount, but the Denton Community Food Center gave out 480,000 pounds of food in 2013 to 10,000 individuals.  This represents 25,000 bags of groceries to struggling families.
  • Hunger and poverty have continued to grow at alarming rates in Denton County and across the nation.
  • Over 15% of families in Denton County do not have enough food to eat each day (90,000 people)
