LUBBOCK, Texas (10/21/07) Mean Green’s Women’s Tennis leaves the ITA Regionals with an overall record of 2-4 in doubles and 1-2 in singles.

Madura Ranganathan played tough in the singles main draw where she lost in the round of 32 to Staten Spencer of Louisiana State University who had a 7-5, 6-4 victory of her. Ranganathan leaves the regionals with a record of 1-1.

“This was a great opportunity for us to measure ourselves in the region. We realize we have made progress and are with the best of the teams, but still have a ways to go. Our hopes are to get stronger both mentally and physically. We had the opportunity to compete and prove ourselves which we did in some cases and did not in others. We are happy with the effort we put forth and it will motivate us to do well in the region,” said coach Sujay Lama.

Highlights also go to the doubles team of Rachel Wilhelm and Catalina Cruz who fought hard in the tournament and are leaving with a record of 2-1. They fell short 8-2 to the No.2 seeded team of Lenka Broosova and Zuzana Zemenova of Baylor University.

Mean Green’s Narine Kazarova leaves regionals with a record of 4-1. She also fell short to Texas A&M University’s Marisa Druss in the quarter finals.

The North Texas Women’s Tennis will play their final pre-season tournament on Nov. 2-3 at the North Texas Classic located in Denton, TX. The tournament is expected the last all day, starting at 9 a.m.
