Tennis Notches ITA All-Academic Team Nod

DENTON, Texas -- For the fifth time in head coach Sujay Lama's six years at North Texas, Mean Green tennis was named an ITA All-Academic Team for the 2011-12 academic year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association

Half of the 2012 Sun Belt Championship team, including three newcomers, received ITA Scholar Athlete Recognition as well.

Freshman Franziska Sprinkmeyer, juniors Ilona Serchenko and Valentina Starkova and recent graduate Paula Dinuta were named ITA Scholar Athletes. This marks the third straight year that Dinuta has received recognition from the ITA for her work in the classroom.

"I am very proud of our ladies accomplishments in the class room," said Lama. "It's great to see their hard work pay off. Our mission has always been to strive for academic and athletic excellence. These ladies are terrific ambassadors for North Texas athletics."

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. ITA Scholar-Athlete status is awarded to players that have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year.

North Texas was one of four Sun Belt schools and 102 programs nationally to earn All-Academic Team honors. Only 26 female student-athletes received scholar athlete recognition in the Sun Belt Conference for the 2012 season.
