DENTON, Texas (4/21/08) The Mean Green community celebrated one of the finest turnarounds in the country this season at the North Texas Tennis Banquet on Monday night.
The Mean Green fell in the Sun Belt Tournament quarterfinals last weekend to close the book a 13-9 season. After last year’s disappointing 2-19 record, NT rebounded to post the best win percentage by a North Texas team (59.1 percent) since 1986-87.
Mean Green head coach Sujay Lama handed out several awards, including the MVP honor to Catalina Cruz. A versatile athlete, Cruz posted an 11-10 record after playing in the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions this year.
North Texas tennis is in good hands next year, as the Mean Green played the 2007-08 campaign with five true freshmen and just one senior, Idalina Franca. Franca led NT with a 15-5 mark to close out her brilliant career.
