North Texas Tennis Falls To SMU




DENTON (4-11-07) The North Texas tennis team (1-17) fell 7-0 Wednesday to local powerhouse SMU at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

 

"Our team battled a top 40 program to the wire,” said assistant coach Jeff Maren. “We are proud of how positive the girls remained on the court. This type of energy will serve us well as we wrap up our season this week and prepare for the conference tournament."

 

Senior Megan Schmulbach teamed up with Aziza Aba Butain in No. 1 doubles and battled against Bubien and Reitsch of SMU but ultimately lost 8-2.

 

Idalina Franca fell in No. 1 singles to Bubien 6-2, 7-6.

 

The North Texas tennis team plays again on Friday, April 13 at 2:30 p.m. at Waranch Tennis Complex against UT-El Paso.

 

North Texas hosts the Sun Belt Conference Championships at Waranch Tennis Complex the weekend of Friday, April 20.

 

Waranch Tennis Complex is a 12-court complex is located at 1499 S. Bonnie Brae and Walt Parker Dr. This $3 million facility is named for University of North Texas alumnus Ronald Waranch. Included in the complex is a clubhouse with lounge, office space and locker rooms.
