BAYTOWN, Texas (4/4/09) - After a week off, North Texas tennis didn't show any signs of rust as the squad shutout Lee College 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in Baytown. Only one match went to three sets as the Mean Green won all three in doubles and all six in singles.

"We played the way I wanted us to," said NT head coach Sujay Lama. "It was good to get back on the court and I was pleased with how we competed. This match definitely helps our mindset going into tomorrow's match against a tough Rice team."

North Texas (13-5, 2-1) matched its win total of last season (13-9) with the victory against Lee (5-5, 1-1) of the NJCAA. Catalina Cruz played in the only three-setter of the day as she dropped the first set then won in a third set tiebreaker over Adriana Hernandez 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5). At the top two spots, Irina Paraschiv took care of Nadia Lee 6-3, 6-3 and Madura Ranganathan ran away with her match against Frederique Sundstrom 6-0, 6-0. Paula Dinuta, Narine Kazarova, and Amy Joubert posted the rest of the singles wins for North Texas.

In doubles action it was more of the same for the Mean Green. The top team of Ranganathan and Joubert tallied an 8-2 victory over Lee and Hernandez along with Cruz and Kazarova in an 8-1 decision over Sundstrom and Francesca Bassoo. At the No. 3 position, Paraschiv and Rachel Wilhelm defeated the team of Chelsea Creed and Hoang Huynh 8-2.

North Texas gets back on the court tomorrow at 11 A.M. against the Rice Owls at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium in Houston.
