Mean Green Tennis Downs Northwestern State 5-2

DENTON, Texas - North Texas tennis captured its third straight match Sunday afternoon when it took down the Northwestern State Lady Demons 5-2 at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

The Mean Green (6-9) started off the afternoon with a victory at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots.

"Slowly but surely we are getting back to the way we are capable of playing," said head coach Sujay Lama. "This win against an experienced and well coached team will certainly add to the confidence that we are gaining each day. We need to continue working hard and not let up at all."

Amy Joubert and Paula Dinuta were able to defeat Kathrin Lange and Bianca Shulz of Northwestern State (10-4) after a back and forth battle, 8-5.

The Lady Demons would go on to take the No. 1 doubles slot with an 8-5 victory over Irina Paraschiv and Barbora Vykydalova before Madura Ranganathan and Nadia Lee pulled out the No. 2 doubles match and overall doubles point in a close 8-6 match.

"Madura and Nadia stepped up big in doubles today," added Lama. "They gave us a huge lift and the momentum heading into singles play."

The Ranganathan/Lee win marked only the third loss in the last two years for the Northwestern duo of Andrea Nedorostova and Martina Rubesova.

Singles saw North Texas take four of the first five completed matches.

Vykydalova was the first member of the Mean Green turn finish, when she turned in a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory over Bianca Shulz on court three.

After dropping the match on court two, Joubert gave North Texas its third point on court six.

The senior dispatched the Lady Demons' Lauren Peters in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

Lee would then clinch the victory for the Mean Green when she cruised through Kathrin Lange of Northwestern State in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Paraschiv would also go on to win her match at No. 1 singles 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8).

North Texas will be back in action on Tuesday when it takes on TCU in a rescheduled match from the ITA Kick-Off weekend.

The match is set for 2 p.m at the Waranch Tennis Complex.  As always, admission is free of charge.
