LAS COLINAS, Texas (3/21/10) - Forced indoors for the second time at home due to bad weather, the North Texas tennis team handed Lamar University a 5-1 loss Sunday afternoon at Las Colinas Country Club.
The Mean Green (8-5) lost more than three games in a set only twice in its dominating victory.
"Our girls played well today against a good Lamar team," said associate head coach Jeff Maren. "We were poised on each court, and competed hard throughout. This is the type of performance we needed to get ready for Texas-Arlington this Wednesday."
Senior Catalina Cruz provided a huge push for North Texas from the No. 5 slot, when she only lost one game while taking down Manami Kuroda 6-1, 6-0.
"I came out and just focused on playing well and playing my game," said Cruz. "I used this match as practice and a chance to make myself better."
Madura Ranganathan, holding down the No. 2 singles position, was also dominant in her match against Manijee Ashrafi. The junior took down Ashrafi in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
The Mean Green will return to the court Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. when it takes on UTA from Waranch Tennis Complex.
