DENTON (12/06/06) Freshmen Alicia Hale and Bailey Devine were named Swimmer and Diver of the Week by the Sun Belt Conference after leading the North Texas Swimming and Diving team to a first=place victory at the UALR Christmas Invitational last Saturday.

Freshman Alicia Hale earned the honor of Co-Swimmer of the Meet at the UALR Christmas Invitational after winning three individual events and breaking two school records. Hale finished first in the 500 freestyle, breaking the school record (5:00.88). She won the 200 IM, breaking the school record (2:09.07), and she took first place in the 200 freestyle, swimming the second-fastest time in school history (1:53.65). The San Antonio native was also part of two school record-setting relay groups last weekend. In the 400 freestyle relay she helped set the school record of 3:34.34, and in the 800 freestyle relay she helped set the school record of 7:49.08.

This season, Hale has won thirteen events in only six meets and was the only North Texas event winner against No. 7 SMU (11/10/06). She has set four school records and has six separate times that rank in the top-five in school history.

Bailey Devine finished third out of six participants in both the one-meter diving and three-meter diving events at the UALR Christmas Invitational. Her score of 355.65 in three-meter diving and 318.90 in one-meter diving set the third-highest score in school history in both events. The 32 points she earned in the diving events contributed to the team’s first place victory with a team score of 811.

The Mean Green (4-2) has broken 13 school records this season and recorded 30 separate times that rank in the top-ten in school history.

The team has more than a month off before it travels to Houston to take on such teams as Houston, Florida International and New Mexico State on Jan. 12-13.
