Swimming Travels To UALR For Annual Tournament

DENTON (11/30/06) The North Texas Swimming and Diving team travels to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Friday and Saturday to compete in the annual UALR Christmas Invitational for the sixth consecutive year.

The Mean Green will be competing against such teams as UALR, Drury, Ouachita Baptist, Henderson State, Hendrix, Austin College, John Brown University, and Incarnate Word.

“I feel we have already made tremendous progress this season, and will continue to improve each meet,” said head coach Joe Dykstra. “This tournament will be a good training experience for the team.”

Already this season, the swimming and diving team (4-2) has competed against and defeated both Austin College, for the fourth time in school history, and Incarnate Word for the third time. The team has broken five school records in the first five meets this season and has posted 15 times that rank in the top-five in school history.

The team has had success in the past at the UALR Invitational, finishing in second place while breaking six school records in 2002 and finishing third out of six teams in 2003. In 2004 the team finished in third place, and in 2005 Christina Hammervold broke a five-year old school record.
