Mean Green Swimming Adds Four In Early Signing Period

DENTON, Texas (11/27/07) North Texas head swimming and diving coach Joe Dykstra signed four swimmers to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.

“I am very excited that these four tremendous young ladies have decided to join the Mean Green.  They are all very fine swimmers who have been steadily improving over the past few seasons,” Dykstra said. “I feel that all four of them have tremendous potential to improve and to help us on our quest to win the Sun Belt Championship.”

Carleigh Kutac was a three-time district champion and region finalist for Memorial High School and coach Jason Mauss. Kutac, a two-time all-state selection, is a member of three school record breaking relay teams. She also was selected as a Scholastic All-American in both 2006 and 2007. Kutac is a member of Dads Club Swim Team coached by Mark Boerner.

Dawn Richerson, a senior at Legacy High School, was a 5A state qualifier in the 50 and 100 freestyle last season as a junior. Her time of 52.92 in the 100 free is faster than any time posted by a current Mean Green swimmer so far this season. Richerson holds five individual and three relay school records. She is a member of Mid-Cities Arlington Swimmers and is coached by North Texas alumnus Brian Dangelmaier.

Also joining the Mean Green will be Moore, Okla., native Hiliary Riedmann. Riedmann, a three-year letter-winner for coach Ed Alexander and Moore High School, was a two-time Oklahoma state champion in the 500 freestyle. She has been an all-state selection all three years she has competed at the varsity level. Riedmann holds three school records at Moore High School, including the individual record in the 100 butterfly. She is a member of the Sooner Swim Club.

The Mean Green will also add Danae Welch, a senior at Vista Ridge High School. Welch was a two-time state finalist and has qualified for state every year since her freshman season. She was named both District 25-4A and Vista Ridge High Most Valuable Swimmer in 2006 and 2007. Welch is a member of Twin Creeks Swim Club coached by Laura Koch.

“These four athletes will also be great additions to the university as a whole, as all four of them are very fine students, ranking near the top of their respective graduating classes, and are all leaders in the community,” Dykstra said.
