Sun Belt Names Garcia-Meitin Swimmer Of The Week

Sophomore Bonnie Garcia-Meitin was named the Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 16 for her outstanding performances in the previous week's competition.

Garcia-Meitin was recognized after she led the Mean Green in competition last week against SMU, Wyoming, Houston and Centenary. She finished second in the 100 Backstroke to SMU All-American, Anja Carman, with the time 59.48, and recorded her fastest time of the season in the 50 Freestyle at 24.91.

Against Centenary, Garcia-Meitin led the Mean Green by grabbing first place in all her events. She won the 200 Backstroke at 2:07.36 finishing 11 seconds in front of the competition. In the 200 Freestyle, Garcia-Meitin took top place honors with the time 1:56.83.

Garcia-Meitin has continued to be a leading competitor for the Mean Green throughout her career at North Texas. As a freshman, she set two new school records in the 50 Freestyle (24.37) and 100 Backstroke (58.25).
