Mean Green Sweeps Weekly Sun Belt Swimming & Diving Awards

DENTON (11/13/03) - Junior Bethany Pipes was named the Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week for the third time in her career, while freshman teammate Lindsay Therrian was named the league’s Diver of the Week on Thursday to complete a sweep of the conference’s weekly awards by North Texas.

Pipes took first place in both the 200 Freestyle and 200 Backstroke events in a dual meet with Louisiana-Monroe and Spring Hill College to lead the Mean Green. She swam a 1:57.58 in the 200 Freestyle and a 2:10.55 in the 200 Backstroke. Her time in the 200 Backstroke was almost a full five seconds faster than second place. The San Antonio, Tex., native swam on the 400 Freestyle Relay team that posted a season-best time of 3:43.62 and took first place.

Pipes was aslo named the Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week on Feb. 5, 2003, and Jan. 29, 2002.

Lindsay Therrian, a local standout from Lewisville, Tex., posted the team’s best score in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events in the dual meet with UL-Monroe and Spring Hill College. Therrian took third place in the one-meter and second place in the three-meter.

Therrian has recorded the team’s best scores in both diving events this season with scores of 219.30 in the one-meter and 207.00 in the three meter.
