Student-Athletes Take Part In Workshop

DENTON, Texas (10/11/12) -Mean Green student-athletes had a little glimpse into what their future might look like on Wednesday night when North Texas athletics hosted its first resume-building workshop at the Apogee Club Level.

Partnered with the university's career center, the workshop was open to student-athletes in their junior year at North Texas. Representatives from various local companies spoke to the athletes about building resumes and what professionals look for in a resume.

"I was very excited about tonight's event," said Michele Lowry, the student-athlete affairs coordinator. "We had some wonderful guests who brought valuable knowledge to our student athletes. The athletes were engaged and very professional. The atmosphere in the room was energetic, and I think this was an evening that will help the student-athletes prepare for life after sports."

The career center went through a resume-basics seminar and showed them the resources available through their office. The student-athletes, dressed in business attire, were then placed into groups related to their desired career path. Each group was led by a local professional, who provided insight into resumes and his or her career path.

Companies included Northwest Mutual, Petter Financial group, UNT Health Science and the Toulous Graduate School.  North Texas coaches, trainers, and athletic representatives were also on hand to help with those athletes wanting to go into the athletic field.
