COLLEGE STATION, Texas (10/10/08) - The Aggies and the Owls had too much for the Mean Green in a three-way dual meet in College Station on Friday. Coming in as one of the best teams in the country, Texas A&M defeated North Texas, 187-103. Rice flexed their muscle by winning over the Mean Green, 184-109.
Mean Green swimming head coach, Joe Dykstra, offered up his opinions.
"We didn't quite have that total team effort tonight," said Dykstra. "We lost some close races to Rice which were disappointing. On the positive side, I was proud of our individual performances in several of the events."
There were several performances to be proud of for North Texas.
On the diving side, Kim Nelson-Wulff posted her career best times for the one meter (six dives) and the three meter (six dives). Wulff received a score of 208.95 good enough for second place in the one meter. Her previous career best score was 194.05. In the three meter, she earned a 207.00 topping her previous high of 199.20.
Speaking of the three meter, this was the first time North Texas ever had three divers receive scores of at least 200 points. Lauren Hudson got a 224.47, Delia Covo posted a 209.02, and Wulff earned her 207.00.
The Mean Green had a couple of second place finishes in the swimming events.
Emily Floyd placed second in the 500 Freestyle barely beating out Caitlin Warner of Rice. Floyd got a time of 5:04.42 and Warner had a 5:04.51. The team of Nicole Leslie, Seabre Pope, Carleigh Kutac, and Alicia Hale swam a 1:38.64 finishing second to Rice in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
Speaking of Alicia Hale, she put up solid efforts in other events as well.
Hale swam a time of 53.29 which was good enough for third in the 100 Freestyle. She also got third place in the 200 Individual Medley (2:09.21). This was just behind Shelby Bottoms of Rice who got a time of 2:09.03.
Hillary Riedmann also put up a good showing in the 1000 Freestyle by barely coming in fourth. Riedmann posted a time of 10:29.71 and Nicole Delaloye of Rice finished with a 10:29.29.
The Mean Green has a quick turnaround as they take on the Houston Cougars in Houston at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
