S&D To Begin Season With Green & White Meet

DENTON, Texas (9/20/12) - North Texas swimming & diving will participate in the Green & White Meet on Friday, September 21, and hold an Alumnae Meet on Saturday, September 22.

"I don't expect us to have any top performances [on Friday] because this has been our hardest week of training," said head coach Joe Dykstra. "I'm excited to see how they respond when they don't feel good. Hopefully they can step up to the plate when they aren't at their best."

North Texas is coming off a season under head coach Joe Dykstra in which the squad went 6-4 in dual meets and numerous records that were broken. Many of the records were broken multiple times, including Becca Ploetz in the 100-yard freestyle, Krista Rossum in the 200-yard breaststroke, and Catia Weickgenant in the 200-yard butterfly.

Dykstra enters his seventh season at the helm of the Mean Green, and he brings in a talented freshmen class that includes Michelle Balcaen and Jana Burkard, who both competed in junior national events in the summer in their respective countries of Canada and Germany.

After competing on Friday, the current Mean Green athletes will go head-to-head with the alumnae of North Texas swimming & diving on Saturday.

"I want the current team to just interact with the alumni," said Dykstra. "I just want it to be fun for everybody."

The Green & White Meet will begin with the diving portion of the event at 2 p.m. in the Physical Education Building, followed by swimming at 4 p.m. in the Pohl Recreation Center. The Alumnae Meet is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday at Pohl as well.

North Texas will open up its dual meet schedule on Friday, October 5, in Little Rock, Ark., against the UALR Trojans. The Mean Green opens the home schedule on Friday, November 2, against the Rice Owls.
