LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (2/15/03) -- The North Texas women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up its season Saturday at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, finishing in fourth place with a three-day score of 476.
The Mean Green, which finished fourth each of the previous two seasons at the Sun Belt Championships, easily finished ahead of league-newcomer Louisiana-Monroe with a score of 390 and host Arkansas-Little Rock with 147 total points. Western Kentucky took the league title with a score of 916.50, while New Mexico State finished second with 667.50 points and Denver in third with 476.
North Texas was led by Bethany Pipes with three top-three finishes for the entire meet. Pipes and Elizabeth Johnson were named All-Sun Belt Conference virtue of finishing among the top three swimmers in at least one event.
The meet’s final day included the 200-Yard Backstroke, 100-Yard Freestyle, 200-Yard Breaststroke, 200-Yard Butterfly, 400-Yard Freestyle Relay, and three-meter diving events. Pipes set the school record in the 200-Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:06.05, which earned her third place. For the entire meet, the Mean Green set new school standards in 10 events.
