NT's Top Performers Provide Tough Competition For TCU

DENTON (1/19/05) - North Texas' top performers came out in full force when the Mean Green women's swimming and diving team hosted TCU Wednesday night at the NT Student Recreation Center on the campus of UNT in Denton. The Mean Green posted top finishes in several events, but unfortunately it was not enough to defeat the Horned Frogs who won 124-104.

Sophomore Jaime Hosner, for the second time in less than a week, set a new NT record in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:36.79 giving her a first place finish. Hosner also placed first in the 500 freestyle with the time 5:14.13.

Other leading performers for the Mean Green included sophomore Gwen Rourke who took home first for the Mean Green in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.72. Also, senior three-time All-Conference swimmer Bethany Pipes placed first in the 100 freestyle with the time 54.44. Pipes swam a time of 1:56.33 in the 200 freestyle that placed her second in that event. Freshman newcomer Bonnie Garcia-Meitin placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:01.05) and second in the 50 freestyle (25.58). Garcia-Meitin narrowly missed first place over TCU's Aimee Moreau by three-tenths of a second.

In the diving competition, freshman Lauren Page posted the highest score for the Mean Green in both the 1-meter (212.17) and 3-meter (191.33) diving events.

With the regular season now at an end for the Mean Green, they look to the Sun Belt Championships that will take place Feb. 17-19 in Little Rock, Ark.
