Gentile, Covo Garner Weekly Sun Belt Honors




DENTON, Texas (1/14/09) - Rosa Gentile and Delia Covo of the Mean Green swimming & diving team were named Sun Belt Performers of the Week on Wednesday. Gentile was awarded women's swimmer of the week and Covo received women's diver of the week. 

In just their first season at North Texas, the two have already made their mark on the swimming & diving program.
 
Gentile has already become the school record holder at North Texas in the 100 Fly (56.98) and second all-time in the 200 Fly (2:04.72).

"I am very pleased with my results so far this season," Gentile commented. "We have all been training hard and look to perform at our best against TCU and in the conference championships." 

Rosa won both the 100 Butterfly (59.02) and the 200 Butterfly (2:09.46) against the Mountain West's Utah this past Saturday.

Delia Covo is currently second all-time at North Texas in both the one and three meter dives. 

"Diving has been so fulfilling for me this season," said Covo. "I try to prepare myself the best I can and stay focused. It's been a great experience at North Texas so far."

Delia received a score of 224.95 in the one meter, giving her a third place finish before posting a score of 245.35 in the three meter dive for a second place finish versus Utah.

The Mean Green squad will be hosting their final meet of the season on Wednesday, February 4 at 5 P.M. against the TCU Horned Frogs.
