Green Edges White In Swimming Tuneup

DENTON, Texas- North Texas swimmers turned in fine performances, as the Green team of upperclassmen edged the White team of underclassmen 123-120 in the swimming & diving program's annual season opener at the Pohl Recreation Center.

Despite swimmers that are still only in training for the conference meet season, several swimmers turned in times that usually are only seen later in the year. In the 100 yard backstroke, Rosa Gentile turned in a 57.73, just over a second-and-a-half of her team-best time from 2010-11 and just under 1.75 seconds from the school record.

Newcomer Krista Rossum swam a 1:04.99 in the 100 yard breaststroke, just over a second off the school record mark. Rossum again excelled in the 200 breaststroke, swimming a 2:21.33, which would have led North Texas in 2010-11, and is just under two seconds off the school mark.

The meet came down to the 200 freestyle relay, which saw the Green A relay edging the White A relay for first, and the Green B relay edging the White B relay for third, giving Green just enough points to win the meet.

The Mean Green return to the pool on Saturday, September 24 as it hosts the annual Alumnae Meet. The Mean Green begin the dual-meet season on October 15, as it travels to Tulane.
