NT Beats Houston In 2013 Return To The Pool

BOX SCORE

DENTON, Texas- The Mean Green swimming and diving team split the meet on Wednesday after toppling Houston but coming up short against the Mustangs. It was the Mean Green's first swim of the new year.

North Texas beat Houston 155-145 after a tight diving contest following the swimming portion that saw Houston take first in both the 1 meter and the 3 meter dives. NT's strong showings from Kimmy Phillips, Mona Groteguth and Krista Rossum as it squeaked out solid times in the 1000 free, 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard backstroke.

"We are happy to get a hard-fought win over a good Houston team and to have competed well against SMU," head coach Joe Dykstra said. "We are a few athletes short due to injury and illness and had several others not feeling well, but were able to tough through it and get a win."

The Mean Green did not have enough firepower to stave off SMU as the Stangs overwhelmed both North Texas and Houston throughout the meet.
