DENTON - The North Texas swimming and diving team used a first place finish in the day's final event to claim victory on Friday, taking a 127-116 win and extending an undefeated record against Incarnate Word in the first dual meet of the season.

"We had our best dual meet that I have been apart of in the two seasons that I have coached at North Texas," head coach Brendon Bray said. "Incarnate Word is a talented team and they have a few great swimmers so it was nice to swim well and come away with the win."

Freshman Barbara Wasilewska led the way for North Texas as she claimed top finishes in each of the distance freestyle events. Seniors Krista Rossum and Mona Groteguth, as well as freshman Sydney Buckley, each pitched in first place finishes as well. In addition, the team's victories in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay proved pivotal in the meet's outcome.

The Mean Green now prepares for a packed Halloween weekend as the team will host Houston and no. 3 Texas A&M at 3 p.m. on Oct. 31. North Texas will compete in its first Conference USA meet of the year on the following day when Rice visits the Pohl Recreation Center at 11 a.m. on Nov. 1.
