DENTON - For the second consecutive year, Coach Brendon Bray's Mean Green squad has led Conference USA swimming and diving programs in the number of student-athletes earning honor roll and academic medal designations, the league announced over the weekend.

"I'm so proud of our athletes for making school such a high priority," Bray said. "Finishing first among the conference's swimming and diving teams in academic awards is an outstanding achievement."

North Texas landed 28 student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, an award designated for those earning a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher. Of the remaining six conference swimming programs, Marshall came in second with 23 women named to the honor roll, followed by Rice with 22.

Thirteen student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.75 also received the Commissioner's Academic Medal. This number was tops among all North Texas programs, and it almost doubled a second-place Old Dominion swimming squad that had seven student-athletes added to the list.

The team's stellar work in the classroom comes as no surprise. North Texas led the conference in each of last year's academic categories, but there were nine schools that sponsored swimming and diving programs in a conference that included its seven current members, along with East Carolina and Tulane.

Overall, North Texas placed 164 student-athletes on the honor roll, 10 more than last year, while 40 academic medal winners is three more from the previous year.

So what do our student-athletes hope to achieve with this academic success? Honor roll designees Krista Rossum, Chloe Tong, Michelle Balcaen and Sarah Manning hope to turn their good grades into careers in healthcare. Read their story here.
