DENTON — The North Texas swimming and diving team returns home for its final home meet of the season, hosting TCU for its Senior Day meet on Friday afternoon. It’s just their second regular-season home meet of the season, having split a dual meet against Incarnate Word and Liberty earlier this season.
Last time out, North Texas doubled its dual meet win total, sweeping a triple-dual meet in Little Rock with dual-meet wins over Southern Illinois, Little Rock and Ouachita Baptist to improve to 6-3 in dual meets on the season. The Mean Green won first place overall in 11 of the 16 events.
Sophomore Sarah Vaisse was selected as Conference USA Co-Swimmer of the Week, her first career C-USA weekly award, for her performance in that triple-dual meet. She won first place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.41) and 200-yard individual medley (2:07.39) and also swam the second leg of a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.42).
Vaisse (100 breaststroke) and fellow sophomores Claudia Kitching (200 breaststroke) and Caroline Culpepper (200 butterfly) hold the fastest times in their respective events in Conference USA this season. Kitching has also posted two NCAA B time standards in the 200-yard breaststroke, including a season-best time of 2:13.51.
TCU enters the meet with a 4-3 record in dual meets, defeating West Virginia by a score of 157-143 in its last meet on Jan. 16. North Texas has battled Metroplex rival TCU more than any other opponent in school history, as they will meet for the 23rd time Friday. TCU holds a 19-3 advantage in the series, with the Mean Green last defeating the Horned Frogs during the 2011-12 season.
