DENTON — Fresh off winter training in California, the North Texas swimming and diving team returns to action this weekend, traveling to Little Rock, Arkansas, for a triple-dual meet against host Little Rock, Southern Illinois and Ouachita Baptist on Saturday.

In California, the swimmers defeated San Diego 62-48 in the San Diego Shootout this past Saturday and also scrimmaged San Diego and San Diego State, while the divers trained at UCLA. The divers last competed, as individuals, at the Texas Diving Invitational in late November.

Saturday’s meet in Little Rock will be the first time the North Texas swimmers and divers have competed jointly since their dual meet against Houston on Oct. 31.

The Mean Green, now 3-3 in dual meets this season, remains ranked No. 44 in College Swimming’s mid-major team rankings entering Saturday’s meet. They won five of the eight events against San Diego, including three of the four 50-meter sprint events.

Sophomores Isabelle Morris and Sarah Vaisse and freshmen Rebekah Bradley and Brittany Thurstin each won individual events, and the 400-yard medley relay team also won first place in the meet.

Through eight meets, North Texas continues to boast a strong presence among the best in Conference USA. Sophomores Claudia Kitching (200 breaststroke) and Caroline Culpepper (200 butterfly) hold the fastest times in their respective events. Vaisse and Kitching also have the second-fastest and third-fastest times in the 100 breaststroke.

On the boards, junior Samantha Scheck is league’s sixth-best performer on the 3-meter and seventh-best performer on the 1-meter.

North Texas battles Little Rock for the second time this season, having both competed at the North Texas Relays. North Texas placed second with 358 points, while Little Rock finished fourth with 164 points. Southern Illinois, coming off a two-month break from competition, enters the weekend ranked No. 42 in College Swimming’s mid-major team rankings.

Saturday’s triple-dual meet meet is a final tune-up for the Mean Green, before a pair of dual meets against Metroplex rivals TCU (Jan. 29) and SMU (Feb. 5), as well as the Conference USA Championships in Atlanta (Feb. 24-27).
