UIW Invite Day 2 Results 
SAN ANTONIO - The North Texas swimming and diving team combined for four podium finishes to remain in second with one day to go in the UIW Christmas Invitational. Senior Mona Groteguth led the way for the Mean Green on Saturday as she picked up the team's first win of the meet.
Rice has all but sealed up an invitational win heading into day three with 1,496.5 total points, but the pressure will be on for a second-place North Texas team to hold its position through Sunday's final events. The Mean Green currently leads third-place Incarnate Word, 902-848.
It was the 100 backstroke that proved to be the best event for the Mean Green. Two swimmers - Groteguth and junior Bianca Bocsa - finished in the event's top three. Groteguth took away the victory with a 55.08 time, good for her fifth B time standard of the season and eighth-best in North Texas history. Bocsa took third in the event with her best time of the season (56.35).
For the second consecutive day, the Mean Green opened competition with a third-place relay finish, this time in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of senior Krista Rossum, freshman Isabelle Morris, Groteguth and Bocsa earned a bronze finish, good for the group's third top-three finish over the invite's first two days.
North Texas will look to finish strong on Sunday in the meet's final six events. The preliminary round of the UIW Christmas Invitational begins at 10 a.m. with the finals set to start at 5 p.m. Live stats of the entire weekend can be found here.
Quick Hits
- For the first time this season, Rossum fell short of a top-three finish in a day of competition. Her top individual time was a 1:03.76 in the 100 breast, good for fourth place and eighth in team history.
- Isabelle Morris continues to impress as one of the team's top freshmen. She finished third in the 200 freestyle (1:51.72).
- Groteguth also picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a 56.00 time, the team's second-best performance of the season.
