KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The North Texas swimming and diving team came into day three of the Conference USA Championships hoping to improve on its sixth-place team standing. With the help of four NCAA B time standards and two all-conference finishes, the Mean Green did just that as the team moved up one spot with one day of competition remaining.

Krista Rossum was once again the headliner for North Texas. The Canadian notched a new program record in the 400 IM to take second place (4:15.22, B cut), the team's highest finish to this point in conference action. Rossum has now posted all-time program records in back-to-back days at the conference championships, and the top-three finish gives the senior at least one all-conference selection in each of her four seasons at North Texas.

Mona Groteguth, Rossum, Sydney Buckley and Bianca Bocsa formed a 400 medley relay team that finished third (3:43.28), good for the fourth-best time in team history. In that event, Groteguth posted a leadoff split time of 54.90 in the 100 backstroke, just one of the three B cuts that the German collected on Friday.

Groteguth's other B-qualifying time standards came in the 100 backstroke race, where the senior notched time standards in the preliminary and finals rounds. Her finals time of 54.79 was good for an eighth-place finish.

Superior freshmen left their mark on the standings, as well. Isabelle Morris took eighth in the 200 freestyle's A final (1:50.03). Meanwhile, Sarah Vaisse (1:04.50) and Sydney Buckley (1:04.82) each set personal-bests in the 100 breaststroke, finishing 12th and 13th, respectively. In addition, Buckley finished in 11th in the 100 butterfly race to record the team's best time of the season (55.13).

In the one-meter dive, sophomore Samantha Scheck took sixth (233.60) and junior Jasmine Abercrombie finished seventh (222.30).

North Texas now sits in fifth with 256 points. The Mean Green holds a manageable lead over a sixth-place Florida Atlantic squad (230.5 points), but it will be tough to catch a fourth-placed Marshall team that has 330 points. FIU currently leads all teams with 517 points.
